mamaroneck-ny-real-estate-westchesterDistance to NYC: 23 Miles
Area: 3.5 Square Miles
County: Westchester

The Town of Mamaroneck located in Westchester County includes the entire Village of Larchmont (one square mile), the Unincorporated Area (5.7 square miles which is not part of either village), and that part of the Village of Mamaroneck west of the Mamaroneck River bordering Rye Neck (2.3 square miles). Both the incorporated villages and the unincorporated Town are self-governing and define the Town as a political and governmental subdivision of the State of New York. The Town provides direct municipal services—police, fire and sanitation—to the residents of the Unincorporated area, and recreation, property assessment services and election supervision to both villages.

The Village of Mamaroneck was incorporated in 1895. Residents on either side of the Mamaroneck River realized that the growing community needed services to develop from a rural farming community to a healthy commercial village. In 1890, they realized a new village must be incorporated joining the two areas surrounding the River. The problem with incorporating a new village was that the residents lived in two towns, the Town of Mamaroneck and the Town of Rye. The area, located in the Town of Rye, is known as Rye Neck. Both the Village and Town are located in Southern Westchester County.

With approximately six miles of shoreline, Mamaroneck boasts of many beaches, parks and marinas. Its excellent school system, proximity to New York City and beauty have become the heart and soul of what is known as 'The Friendly Village". Mamaroneck is a suburban commuting community, with a population of 18,000. Mamaroneck Village annual events include the Emelin Street Fair, an Antique Car Show, parades, July 4th fireworks and a youth fishing derby.

Educational Facilities
Mamaroneck residents are proud of their two school systems. The Rye Neck Public Schools serve the eastern part of the Village of Mamaroneck and a small part of the City of Rye. Its students attend the Bellows Elementary and Middle School and Rye Neck High School. It offers AP as well as enrichment courses. The Mamaroneck Union Free School serves the western half of the Village of Mamaroneck, plus the Village of Larchmont and most of the unincorporated area of the Town of Mamaroneck. The prestigious French American School of New York is also located in Mamaroneck.

Recreational Facilities
Mamaroneck offers several private beaches, tennis, yacht and golf clubs, and many fine local restaurants. The Emelin Theatre for Performing Arts is located adjacent to the nearby Mamaroneck Free Library and presents more than 200 performances a year of diverse, quality entertainment from jazz and classical concerts, to drama and dance. This theatre accommodates an audience of 286 and is fully air conditioned. Houses of Worship Mamaroneck Village includes many Houses of Worship, as well as Catholic and Jewish religious schools, many of which are of landmark and/or historic significance.
